Cannabidiol and Tetrahydrocannabinol are currently in use in the North America and European countries. However, it was still not used in Inida. These drugs are by far superior in potency as compared to the current drugs for cancer pain management (i.e. Morphine).
Recently, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has begun the advance stage of trials of these drugs and it is very likely, that these will be available within a span of next two years.
CSIR has partnered with Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai and has been funded by Mr. Ratan Tata’s Bombay Hemp Company. Once in production, the cost of these drugs will be substantially reduced. Currently, the patients have to order from the US or European countries and pay a hefty exorbitant price. However, with the Made in India drugs, will there be now a scope of reverse-drug drain?
